How To Eat Ethiopian FoodEthiopian meals are typically served on a large platter around which guest and family gather. If there are many diners, multiple plates are used. The platter is lined with large pieces of a flat, pancake like bread called “Injera”.
Injera is the Ethiopian staple bread. Piles of various food items are placed around the platter with rolled up pieces of injera. Ethiopians do not use eating utensils. Pieces of the injera are torn off with the fingers of the right hand and used to scoop up and slightly compact the food. This can be a bit tricky manners, but Ethiopians are aware of this, and are often actually surprised when a foreigner managers to eat properly. How To Enjoy Ethiopian Food |
