Made in Africa - Restaurant(Moorooka)Up until now, to experience the traditions of Ethiopia, you would have to spend 26 hours or more on two or three planes to get to Addis Ababa for truly authentic Ethiopian hospitality. But now, thanks to Tesfaye and the team at “Made in Africa”, you can have a truly authentic Ethiopian experience right here in Brisbane.
You will discover the warm hospitality of Tesfaye’s family as you and your friends dine on an extensive selection of traditional Ethiopian meat and vegetarian “Wats” ( stews) and “Tibs” (Warm meat with salad), around a traditional Ethiopian “Mesob” (a round, brightly coloured, woven, wicker table), all served with Ethiopia’s traditional flat, sour-dough bread called “Injera”. Hand washing is an important part of the authentic experience at Made in Africa and your host or hostess will ensure that your meal begins with the traditional hand wash. You’ll be especially pleased about that hand washing tradition when you learn about “Goorsha”. Normally you break a piece of Injera and roll it in the Wat and put it in yourown mouth, but sometimes you may tear a piece off, roll it in the Wat and place it in you friends mouth! This is called a Gorsha and is a sign of true friendship. Of course the bigger the Gorsha the greater the friendship! Just when you thought we couldn’t squeeze any more of Ethiopia around a small table, you will be enthralled when your meal is followed by the Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony. Ethiopia is the home of the coffee bean and the Ethiopian people really know their coffee! You are not going to want to miss your host roasting the beans, grinding them and then brewing the coffee right in front of you before serving you and your friends delicious coffee from a clay “Jebena”. By the end of the night you will have a full belly and a much greater understanding of the traditions, hospitality and generosity of Ethiopia and the Ethiopian people. At Made in Africa, Ethiopian art and artifacts adorn the wall and your hosts are resplendent in their Ethiopian garb. Where else in Brisbane can you immerse yourself so deeply in the Ethiopian way of life? With such delicious food, and true African hospitality, you and your friends will want to come back again and again to the only truly authentic Ethiopian dining experience in town. You really owe it to yourself, your friends and your family to come along to this must have Brisbane experience! I am looking forward to seeing you very soon! |

We all know our favourite Australian-fusion cuisines which seem to have migrated together to influence menu’s all over the country. But how about the Ethopian cuisine? Definitely no existing fusion that im aware of! I knew there was no way I was going to recognise a dish on the menu and THAT’S what I was most excited for. A new food adventure, and what an incredibly enlightening and pleasant experience it was Located in Moorooka, Made in Africa provided one of the most authentic food experiences I have ever had. The menu was a delight in itself – I recognised nothing, it was perfect. When you visit (which I sincerely hope you do) and you end up in the same situation, don’t worry its okay, you have two options: 1) close your eyes point your finger and try the dish, its guaranteed to be delightful or 2) Ask the beautifully kind owner, Tesfaye, for help. Tesfaye is passionate about his home country, his food and his tradition so he will be more than willing and able to help. His recommendation for us was to try the Tasting Platter combinations, designed for groups of 2+. This Tasting Platter can come as a single main option, or you can choose to have it with entrees, desert and coffee. We opted for entrée-main option which included a selection of traditional vegetarian and meat filled somosas, followed by our main meal which was essentially 8 different dishes all in one (insert emoji with love hearts in eyes). |
